11:30 a.m. 3rd Destination: Sam Tung Uk Museum

After visitng the Western Monastery at 1030, we take a 15-minute minibus ride back to Tsuen Wan station. We then walk 5 minutes from the station and reach our next destination, the Sam Tung Uk Museum.



Sam Tung Uk Museum was once called Sam Tung Uk Village, which is one of the oldest Hakka walled village in HK. It is built by the Chans in 1786. Nearly all its original architectural features have remained, so it has a high historical significance.

Route: Entrance hall →Period house → Side house → Exhibition hall
Sam Tung Uk Museum has a basic rectangular structure covering an area of 2000m2.We first visit the entrance hall, then head to the period house, followed by the side house. Finally, we will visit the exhibition hall at the back.

I.           The Entrance Hall
The entrance hall has the reception area and orientation room on both side of it. They show the display of the documentation of the restoration process.


II.        The Period House
The 4 central houses in the middle are the period house. They were the houses for the Chan main family. Now they become a permanent display and exhibition area. This is one of the highlights of our tour.
The period houses provide agricultural implements and everyday objects of Hakka village life for visitors to experience the Hakka life. Many of these objects can be touched and take photos with. The scenarios include living room, bedrooms, kitchen and working areas.


III.        The Side House
After visiting the period house, we then move to the side house.
The side houses display old photos or painting of Tsuen Wan and Hong Kong.

IV.       The Exhibition Hall
The exhibition hall has a long-term exhibition showing the history of the Tsuen Wan District. There are photos, videos, crops, models, maps and other old objects. They all project the image of old Tsuen Wan, as well as the old HK.
